Sew the Trend: Plaids – Fall

Hey guys! Rita here.

I had so much fun putting together the list of sewable fall trends, I figured I’ll give you some more inspiration.  Here are patterns and fabric suggest to recreate some of my favorite looks from the runway. Plaid is one of my favorite patterns to wear, so here are my top outfits.

Plaid-look-one

Michael Kors Plaid Suit

This outfit stood out to me because it’s a take on a suit that is way cooler than your average day at the office.

I thought this Burda Style 6569 pattern would be great! The blazer has a nice shape that would fit most body types and the lack of lapel on version A makes it quite interesting. There aren’t to many pattern pieces so really good for plaid! For the pants, let’s go with Simplicity 8744. It’s their amazing fit line and has lots of variations. The fabrics I chose are amazingly close to the inspiration and would make a great pairing. I already purchased the Black Watch Tartan. You can purchase it from Ebay and the school uniform red tartan you can purchase from Carr Textile.

Plaid-look-two

The Molly Goddard Dress

Instantly when I saw this dress it made me think of Deer and Doe Myosotis dress. This dress is so fun and you could easily eliminate the button center font and add a zip in the back. I couldn’t find a close fabric in comparison to the Molly version. But I found some cool plaids that would look great in this dress. The black and white plaid from Mood is the perfect disposition from the traditional plaid. The blue and red plaid is the prefect traditional plaid pattern in a fun color combo and indigo plaid is the prefect “neutral” plaid. This is so on my fall list!

Plaid-look-three

The Wrap Skirt and Pullover

When I saw this outfit I instantly thought of the Sew House Seven Toaster Sweater!

I think that would be a great option to recreate this look. The skirt is a wrap skirt and I think it would go with either the Laura skirt from Seamwork or Vogue 8956. They are both really good wrap skirt options with simple construction. Vogue 8956 have a few variations if you want to step up the designer look!

Let me know what you think of my picks in the comments below! I think I’m going to try and recreate the Michael Kors suit. I already have the fabric and it’s BEAUTIFUL!
