Fall Capsule Wardrobe Planning – Dresses

Capsule-dresses-2

Rita Mae here! It’s that time of year again, where we start thinking about what’s new for fall.

I am forcing myself to think about fall cozy clothes. It’s been really hard because I’m still wanting to make summer pieces. But if I’m going to have any hopes of getting some really awesome, well-fitting fall/winter clothes in my wardrobe, I need to get a move on.

My goal is to eventually have a mostly “me-made” wardrobe. I’m not even close, especially for fall and winter. Summer clothes are just easier to make and so quick!

Anyways, enough with the rambling…

A few weeks ago, I posted part 1 of my fall sewing plans. Well, those plans have changed quite a bit. I know! Sorry…

Oh, did I also mention that I am on a fabric buying hiatus. I promise myself that I wouldn’t buy any fabric that is not part of a project that I already have fabric for or once I used all of my “useable” fabric in my stash. — I put useable in quotes because we all know that will be debatable. LOL any who, I said I was going to stop rambling.

I like to start off my capsule planning with looking at what’s fresh and new for the fall season. That will dictate what I find as far as patterns and fabrics in the market. I like to know ahead of time what’s out there. So, I won’t be disappointed when I really want to find a button down skirt pattern with pleats like last year and can’t find one. A year later they’re everywhere!  Now I can’t decided on which one to make. See what I mean!

Anyways on with the show…

I checked out Pantone color’s for fall. And they fit in my color palette perfectly this year! Yippy!  So I’m feeling hopeful to find the fabrics that I need to create a balance wardrobe that I love this fall.  I’m drawn to the London palette the most. So pretty

But I see another problem. I think I’m going to have to buy fabric. I only have a few options that are both 1) fall appropriate fabrics and 2) fabrics that excite me in my stash for fall.

But here is what I have so far for dresses.

Aren’t these fabrics lovely! The color story is prefect!

First up Sew Over It 1940’s Tea Dress. OMG I’m so excited about this! The fabric is a peach skin from Fabric Mart (my fav place to shop). I still have to make a muslin for this. I think I will do that today. Let me know if you want to see the adjustments I make.

This one I can’t decide. It depends on whether or not I want to match the pattern. What do you think? McCalls M7188 or New Look S0943

This fabric had me pondering over and over. When I purchased it, I really saw this dress, just without the elastic back detail. so a few adjustments like put in a zip and I think it will be purrrfect!  I decided to ignore all pattern matching on this one! (I know shameful!) – Oh it’s a peach skin

See you in a few weeks when I have these babies all sewn up!

  1. That bottom McCall’s pattern is perfect! I love all the versions. I’ll have to find it! You have some great fabrics to work with–I can’t wait to see how it goes!
