#Resewlutions of 2018

Every year I think long and hard about how I can improve my sewing skills. I set big plans of sewing a capsule wardrobe, sew something grand, have an entire me made wardrobe, yada, yada, yada…

I never get close to accomplishing those plans. What happens? I ponder over what to sew. What I’m naturally drawn to, I disregard because it doesn’t “fit in the plan“, ending up with less projects than intended.

NO MORE! I will absolutely sew what I’m drawn to and no more pressures to have a completely hand made wardrobe. I love to shop!
Whew! got that out the way! So what’s next?

Let’s start with the #Resewlution questions from YouTuber Cotton by Candy. Totally check out her video if you haven’t already!

1) What’s your favorite make of 2017? Why?
Defiantly my Sew Over It Doris dress hack. I took the classic shape of the dress and updated it to match my classic/boho style. I used the bodice and added a tiered skirt. Love it!

2) What did you attempt in 2017 that you won’t be doing this year? Why not?
I will absolutely not try to sew a capsule wardrobe. I will not stop adding and adjusting my “capsule” wardrobe each season. But I won’t put pressure on myself to sew entire capsule.

3) What are you going to continue doing?
I will continue to work on my fitting and drafting patterns skills. I hate to make clothes that don’t fit well… It’s like what’s the point! I will also continue to keep a sew journal.

4) What are you going to try this year?
I really want to make some jeans and a jacket/cardigan, scheduling specific days for cutting and fitting, and sewing my son tons of clothes!

5) Where do you see your handmade wardrobe by the end of next year?
I see my handmade wardrobe truly reflecting me. Having enough variety that I choose what I wear by the how I want to feelFashion is a feeling!

What about in 5 years?
Shit! Your guess is as good as mine!

  1. Love the buttons on that dress! It looks amazing 🙂
I love reading all of the capsule wardrobe blog posts that happen every year, it’s really impressive to watch people make entire capsule wardrobes. But I don’t think I could ever do it. I love the freedom of walking into a fabric store and just thinking about the endless possibilities (even though I spend more time thinking about the endless possibilities than actually making things!)

    1. Me too! I spend a lot of time thinking about what I want to sew and not actually sewing it. Hopefully this year will be more making and less thinking!
